Job ResponsibilityREGISTERED NURSE (WITH MIDWIFERY CERTIFICATION)
Responsibilities:
- To provide and manage the care of women during labour and delivery.
- To obtain accurate medical, obstetrical, gynaecological, and psycho-social history of the present pregnancy and observes signs of the member's general and obstetrical health status.
- Responsible for documenting all findings of examinations, histories, and significant observations in the patient's chart.
- Responsible for determining pregnancy status during gestation, fetal heart rate, and presentation and position of foetus.
- Applies knowledge to determine whether all findings are within normal limits.
- Obtains consultation and assistance from physicians as needed to institute preventative measures and detect abnormal conditions.
- Provides assessment on patient's general and obstetrical health status.
- Responsible for the provision of health supervisory services, care and family planning advice to women during antepartum and postpartum periods.
- Performs procedures such as abdominal palpation and ultrasound examinations to evaluate foetal status; estimate foetal weight, presentation and position, approximate station and fetal heart rate.
- Performs internal and external foetal monitoring and interpretation.
- Consults with obstetrician regarding abnormal findings.
- Determines patients' degree of labour and whether they are to be hospitalized to labour and delivery unit
- Delivering patients' babies in birthing room as well as providing emotional support and encouragement during labour.
- Conducts normal spontaneous vaginal deliveries independently during Emergency labour.
- Teaching patients with pain management techniques to prepare them for labour.
- Provides assistance prior to caesarean sections and gynaecological surgeries.
- Undertakes immediate care of the new born
- Provides prenatal care as well as gynaecological care to women.
- Monitoring the health of pregnant women and their unborn babies.
- Educating patients as well as their partners and family members on reproductive health, preparation for parenthood, and antenatal care.
- Helping patients and their partners to cope with miscarriages, stillbirths, neonatal deaths, and terminations.
- Teaching new mothers how to feed their new-borns.
- Providing sound advice to patients regarding diets, exercises, and medications suitable for pregnancy.
- Involved in Quality Improvement activities in the hospital.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Certificate in Nursing Midwifery.
- Obtain current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Midwife with Nursing Board of Malaysia.
- Active listening and communications skills.
- Coaching skills.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team oriented and interdisciplinary environment.
- Compassionate and caring attitude to deal with women who are in pain, and enjoy working with women from diverse backgrounds.
